Miller Floor Covering shines with pride
Factory work was just not right for Steve Miller
of Miller Floor Covering of rural Republic.
Miller was working for Armstrong Air of
Bellevue in the late 1980s. He began training as a
floor covering installer with his buddy from
Fremont, Len Heaghey, and in 1988 he branched
out on his own.
Miller believes it is important to enjoy your work
and he thoroughly enjoys his job. “There is always
something new to do and not the same old-same
old factory work.”
Miller Floor Covering is a family-owned business.
Miller’s wife, Kelley, helps with the business
by doing the books. She maintains a full-time job
at Wynn-reeth in Green Springs. Their two daughters,
Taylor and Madison, attend Clyde Schools.
The business is run out of their new Adams
Township home that he personally designed and
built, with the exception of the basement and the
framing of the home. He takes a lot of pride in his
workmanship, and his home is proof of his handcrafted
workmanship.
Miller does not sell
flooring. Instead he
serves as a contractor
and installs for Gordon
Lumber Modular Home
Division, Shades Lumber
and Lotycz and Sons in
Fremont. He works
throughout northern
Ohio.
Miller installs vinyl
flooring, laminate flooring,
ceramic tile and carpeting.
He sees no need to
advertise his services because he seems to always
have work and does not experience much down
time. All of his “advertising” is done by word of
mouth.
Miller’s most creative project is the all-stone
bathroom that he installed. He installed all natural
stone on the walls and floor of the bathroom,
shower and around the Jacuzzi tub.
