For nearly 20 years, the cooperative has sold and serviced energy-efficient electric water heaters with extended warranties. Because water heating accounts for 15 to 20 percent of a home’s energy consumption, choosing an energy-efficient electric water heater just makes good financial sense.
Program Options
Marathon ™ water heater: The cooperative will sell to a member a Marathon water heater that has a polyethylene outer jacket and a fiberglass inner tank surrounded by 2-1/2 inches of foam insulation, including the top and bottom. The tank is guaranteed not to leak or rust for the life of the water heater to the original owner. Additionally, the cooperative provides FREE parts and labor on the water heater for 10 years from the date of installation.
Water heaters supplied by others or heat pump water heaters: The cooperative also offers members the opportunity to purchase and install a water heater of their own choosing.
Water Heater Rebate Program
North Central Electric Cooperative offers rebates for the installation of a qualified electric water heater. Rebate amounts vary depending on the type of water heater installation and range from $125 to $500.
Requirements for Rebate

Must be a minimum 75-gallon tank (for storage-type), unless a smaller size is approved by the cooperative in advance.
- Must install a Load Control Switch on the electric elements.
Rebate Discount
The cooperative will deduct $1.50 each month off your electric bill for the installation of the Load Control Switch.
Time Clock switch available at no cost for optional Time of Day control.

North Central Electric Water Heater Contractors
The cooperative has an exclusive service contract with contractors to install and service all water heaters purchased through North Central Electric's water heater program. North Central consumers must first call the cooperative to order a water heater or to receive service.

*At the time of the water heater installation, a water quality test for hardness will be conducted. If the water quality exceeds 20 grains, a water treatment system may be installed, at the customer's expense, within one year from the date of water heater installation to maintain parts and labor coverage for 10 years; otherwise warranty coverage reverts to manufacturer's warranty (varies depending on application).
